Success Stories
Amber Casas was 19 years old when she was eligible for the WIOA Youth Program. Amber is a high school dropout who was interested in obtaining work experience and employment in the medical field. Amber successfully completed her work experience at Beehive Homes of Plainview where she learned basic nursing skills. Amber was then hired on as a caregiver with Beehive Homes of Plainview. Amber was content with her employment at Beehive Homes of Plainview, but recently due to personal issues she had to resign her employment at Beehive Homes of Plainview. Amber is currently employed at Chili’s Grill & Bar as a dishwasher/housekeeper. She was able to find other employment quickly with confidence she gained through her work experience and supportive case management she received in the WIOA Youth Program. Amber plans to get a certified nurse assistant certificate so she can obtain employment as a CNA.

Anthony came into the WIOA Youth Program on October 24, 2023, as an Out -of- School Youth (OSY). Anthony graduated high school in May of 2017, and became a young father on February 17, 2018. Anthony was not interested in training or going to college. He began looking for suitable employment on his own but was unsuccessful. Anthony expressed interest in the Oil field. Monica Bordayo, his Career Consultant assisted him with finding a work experience employment opportunity with Loyal Energy Services in Levelland, TX as a Swamper. Anthony began his work experience employment on September 1, 2023, where he learned skills of cleaning out wells, how to fish parted rods and tubing, how to back off casing, and how to mill through bad casing. Monica also assisted Anthony with work clothing assistance for his work experience and rental assistance so he could catch up on his bills due to being unemployed for month. Anthony completed his work experience on October 20, 2023. Loyal Energy Services decided to hire Anthony on October 23, 2023, since he was doing well and working hard during his work experience employment. Anthony has achieved in his full-time career pathway in the Oil Field where he continues to learn skills in the Oil Field Industry. Anthony had great success in the WIOA Youth Program, he recently referred his brother for the program and believes his brother can gain success as well. He is currently in WIOA Follow-Up Services for 12 months and looking forward to continuing in his career growth in the Oil field industry.

Nathaniel came into the WIOA Youth Program on November 18, 2022, as an Out -of- School Youth (OSY). Nathaniel graduated high school on May 27, 2022, and was highly encouraged by his mother to strive to exceed in life. Nathaniel was not interested in training or going to college. He began looking for suitable employment on his own but was unsuccessful. Nathaniel expressed interest in the electrical field. Cecilia Alcantara, his Career Consultant assisted him with finding a work experience employment opportunity with City Electric of Plainview as an electrician helper. Nathaniel began his work experience employment on November 21, 2022, where he learned skills of installing electrical devices and equipment for all electrical work. WIOA Youth Program also assisted Nathaniel with his tool belt needed to perform all necessary work experience job duties. Nathaniel completed his work experience on January 29, 2023. City Electric of Plainview decided to hire Nathaniel on January 30, 2023, since he was doing well and working hard during his work experience employment. Nathaniel has achieved in his full-time career pathway in the electrical field where he continues to learn skills for the electrical field. Nathaniel recently received his electrical apprentice license. He is currently in WIOA Follow-Up Services for 12 months and looking forward to continuing in his career growth in the electrical industry.

Kanene came into the WIOA Youth program as an Out-of-School Youth (OSY) in November 2022. Kanene had been in the program prior as an In-School Youth in March 2019 and finished high school and graduated in May 2021 as well as went off to college. While being off for college she came back home and was in need of finding work as she wasn’t going to go back to college at this time. As she came into the program as an OSY, she was looking for suitable employment on her own but was unsuccessful. Her Career Consultant, Kayla, helped her with finding a work experience opportunity for her with ABM Industries as a daytime porter from 12/28/22 to 3/19/23. While working with ABM Industries, she was able to learn skills and see the importance behind keeping a building running. When her work experience came to an end, Kanene worked hard and ABM Industries decided to hire her on with the company as of 3/20/23. Kanene is fulfilled in her full-time career pathway that offers vacation, sick pay, and incentives as part of her benefits package and is looking forward to career growth as a young adult.

Roxy came into the WIOA Youth program as an OSY youth. She had expressed her interest in getting assistance in customer service. Her consultant was able to connect her with a retail industry job that deals with customer services as you have to ensure you are meeting and speaking to the customer needs. Her consultant was able to connect her with a work experience opportunity with Broadway Treasures that was a resale- retail industry. While completing her work experience, she was also able to get assistance through the SIR grant for childcare assistance which helped her out with childcare for one year. While she was able to obtain her experience with Broadway Treasures as a retail sales associate, she was offered the opportunity to be hired on by the company once her work experience was completed. Roxy was able to continue to work and continue to strive and get more work experience, but she found a better opportunity for herself. Now Roxy is working at Central Plains Center as an Intellectual Disability Services Assistant. She stated that she is liking it and enjoys being able to help her clients.

Isaac Garcia is a 22-year-old parenting youth that was determined eligible for the WIOA Youth program. He is a high school graduate with no successful prior work experience that could lead him to a long-term career to better support his fiancé and newborn baby boy. Isaac entered a work experience at Cielo Systems on October 10, 2022, and successfully completed the work experience on December 17, 2022. During his training he learned different trades on how to work as an A Tech Automations Specialists. Isaac is now a fulltime employee at Cielo Systems making $15.00 an hour with chances for advancement within the company.
